Kruger Brothers CD, Up 18 North

Carolina in the Fall

All the places I have been to
All the things that I have seen
Since I left my home to wander
When I was just fifteen
Though the travelin’ was easy
Still sometimes the road got rough
By the time that I turned thirty-five
I thought I’d seen enough

But for me to settle down a while
Was not what God had planned
So one more time I left my home
With suitcase in my hand
Oh the journey took me far and wide
Across the deep blue sea
And now I know since I’ve been there
Where I was meant to be

I’ve seen sunsets on the ocean
I’ve seen the desert bloom
I’ve driven endless highways
Beneath the prairie moon
Yet the picture in my mind that I see
When I think about it all
Is the color of the leaves
In Carolina in the Fall

Now for thirty years I’ve played the songs
That Doc has taught to me
And the things that he had sung about
I never thought I’d see
In the hills of Carolina
Folks have opened up the door
And for the first time in my life
I’m not a stranger anymore

I’ve seen sunsets on the ocean
I’ve seen the desert bloom
I’ve driven endless highways
Beneath the prairie moon
Yet the picture in my mind that I see
When I think about it all
Is the color of the leaves
In Carolina in the Fall

Kruger Brothers CD, Choices

Choices

So you knew you couldn’t stay
All you did was run away
From the place you once called home
To find where you belong

Now you know just how it feels
When you walk the streets in tears
And you know you won’t turn back
As you move along the track

There’s no reason to despair
For there’s always someone there
Loves you more than you’ll ever know
Doesn’t matter where you go

When you find yourself alone
In a world that’s cold as stone
In the darkness there’s a light
That will guide you through the night

When the time has come to see
That the future’s meant to be
And the choices you recall
Were no choices after all

There’s no reason to despair
For there’s always someone there
Loves you more than you’ll ever know
Doesn’t matter where you go

So let’s sing and dance old friend
Leave your worries where they stand
And trust the promise that was made
That his love would never fade

When it all comes to an end
He will take you by the hand
And he’ll show you through the land
Where peace and joy will never end

There’s no reason to despair
For there’s always someone there
Loves you more than you’ll ever know
Doesn’t matter where you go

Kruger Brothers CD, Between the Notes

Jason

Here I am where I long to be
Finally within my reach
The golden fleece lies there for me
To steal it and to cherish
I cam to take it for my own
Through travels dark and dangerous
It was noble to be born
To hunt it or to perish

Destroyed are all defenses now
The price so near and glorious
I rest and pray for peace
And bow my head in true reverence
My eyes wide open, but my heart it yearns
For love and truth and faith
To steal away and tear apart
Seems foolish now, at last

The choice is mine not anymore
Between common deed and noble
It was certainly worth fighting for
Was it enough to give up honor
Like all the others that have failed
To grasp life’s true intentions
My conquests glory falls impaled
By the power of compassion

So here I am where I long to be
Finally within my reach
The golden fleece lies there for me
To steal it and to cherish
I cam to take it for my own
Through travels dark and dangerous
It was noble to be born
To hunt it or to perish

Kruger Brothers CD, Forever and a Day

Appalachian Mist

They took me far away, and who am I to say
Right or wrong my heart will know the answer
Memories remain, and don’t ask me to explain
For there’s no way I can tell you what I’ve been through

All through the night
Forty seems shorter than it ever did
Now I’m winding along through the Appalachian mist
I’m going home and I can’t wait to see you again
It’s been way too long since I held you in my arms

Time went on so fast, nothing seemed to last
Like a fool I was stumbling through the darkness
Trying to find a way and hoping that some day
I’ll look back in peace and not in anger

All through the night
Forty seems shorter than it ever did
Now I’m winding along through the Appalachian mist
I’m going home, I can’t wait to see you again
It’s been way too long since I held you in my arms

Always on my mind, and afraid that I would find
The world that I once knew laying in ashes
But you promised you would wait, so I know it’s not to late
To hurry back to where I know I’m welcome

Kruger Brothers CD, Forever and a Day

A Warm Evening Breeze

A warm evening breeze gently rolls from the hills
The city lies sleeping and everything is still
Down by the lake in the distance I see
A boy and his girl hand in hand by the quay

For them the whole world is a ballroom tonight
They’re dancing along ‘neath the harvest moon light
They dance to a tune only lovers can hear
And it makes all their worries and fears disappear

I remember when I was that boy long ago
And you were that girl and how I loved you so
The night was so dark all the stars in the skies
They sparkled like diamonds when I looked in your eyes

For us the whole world was a ballroom that night
We were dancing along ‘neath the harvest moon light
We danced to a tune only lovers can hear
And it made all our worries and fears disappear

We were so much in love until that fateful day
I held your hand, but you just slipped away
I feel lonesome now and then but it soothes me to see
That boy and his girl hand in hand by the quay

For them the whole world is a ballroom tonight
They’re dancing along ‘neath the harvest moon light
They dance to a tune only lovers can hear
And it makes all their worries and fears disappear
And it makes all my worries and tears disappear

The Plan

I had a plan when I was young
It involved some having fun
Maybe to find someone to love
And do some things to be proud of
I’d live as fast as I could live
And give it all that I could give
And never think about the end
Always be somebody’s friend

I watch the bow go high and low
Steer my vessel through the flow
Time’s the ocean ‘neath the keel
I will hold on to the wheel

I lit the candle at both ends
Let the years slip through my hands
I did what I believed was right
Never had to run or hide
Friends I found and friends I lost
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
I know each day could be my last
To set the sail upon the mast

I watch the bow go high and low
Steer my vessel through the flow
Time’s the ocean ‘neath the keel
I will hold on to the wheel

Was quite successful with my plan
Yes, I would do it all again
Things I needed came to be
I really went out on a spree
Do I need a plan for growing old?
My young and restless years concluded
I never thought I’d get this far
All thoughts of getting old excluded
